Queen Nyabinghi

Pronounced NY-BING-EE which means 'abundance', Nyabinghi is one of the ancient African queens across Rwandan, Tanzanian, and Ugandan history, who drew strength from her collective. Across the 18th and 19th centuries, her spirit is believed to be the force behind Rwandan Queen Muhumuza’s - wife of King Kigeli IV – fight against colonisation in East Africa and patriarchal systems.

In direct connection as part of their denomination, one of the oldest Mansion’s within the Rastafari religious movement venerates her; The Nyabinghi Order.

House of Nyabinghi

Founder and Creative Director: Bardot

Hailing from the UK; House of Nyabinghi was born out of Bardot's reverence for her African Caribbean, Indian and Syrian heritage, with her parents and both sets of grandparents born in Jamaica. Due to British colonisation - her maternal great-grandmother was Indian - and persecution under the Ottoman Empire - her paternal great-grandmother was from Syria - both women successfully built their lives in Jamaica at the end of the 19th / early 20th Century.

Bardot's passion and advocacy for fashion and the arts; serve as the inspiration for all things House of Nyabinghi.
